The Future doctors and nurses checked their Furry Friends vitals, decorated anesthesia masks and cared For their pals through recovery. Led by Allen Goldstein, MD, MGHFC surgeon-in-chieF, and Mark Farrell, MS, RN, CNOR, clinical nurse manager For pediatric operating rooms, the event aimed to introduce medical care in a welcoming, unintimidating environment, and reduce a childs anxiety when visiting a hospital or primary care center. Families, gowned in scrubs, moved through the Perioperative bays where the children could take blood pressures, temperatures and weigh their patients. Participants also visited two Lunder 2 operating rooms For a demonstration oF laparoscopic surgery where they were able to manipulate surgical instruments on a simulated screen. The Future clinicians splinted StyroFoam bones with casting material that participants could take home once out oF the operating room. They ended their day in the recovery room where they monitored their stuFFed animals post-operatively.
